Music Box Wealden is Will’s brainchild

After many years performing, recording, and teaching throughout the UK and around the world, Will was inspired to develop a model that brings together musicians and concertgoers within their own community. Music Box members pay a monthly subscription that gives them free access to a varied programme of concerts and musical events across Wealden, with many performers drawn from the wide pool of talented professional musicians who live locally. Members become part of a growing community that actively supports its own musicians and encourages the development of young artists.

Localism, community, and sustainability are central to Will’s vision for Music Box. Rather than viewing music as a commodity and the audience as consumers, the initiative seeks to create a cooperative community that serves the needs of listeners, learners, and performers alike. At a time when travel impacts both the planet and personal finances, it makes sense to bring music closer to home as part of a broader shift toward strong, circular local economies. Music Box invites people to “cut their culture miles” by enjoying high-quality performances right on their doorstep.

Will believes that if classical music is to continue renewing itself as part of a living culture, barrier - both real and perceived - must be broken down. Instead of taking place in large, impersonal venues, Music Box concerts are held in smaller local spaces where audiences can experience the music up close and connect personally with the artists.
